I have blogged in the past about the Commercial Screen Project module at the University Of The West Of Scotland . This is an innovative “real life” project  where 3rd Year student Teams use their acting, writing and filming skills create a  web video for an external client.

The Projects Will Be Workshopped in Our Ayr TV Studios.

This year I am delighted to reveal that  two of the  clients for whom the teams are creating web content are Spirit Aid , the Charity set up by Glasgow born actor David Hayman, and the UWS Skillset Media Academy, based in Paisley. Spirit Aid wish to promote their annual Fund Raising climb of Ben Nevis on the 19th of May, and Margaret Scott, manager of the Skillset Media Academy is using the talents of the students to publicise the opening of the innovative Social Media Hub in March.

Students teams have already had preliminary meetings with the management of both organisations to discuss the brief, and are currently researching and planning the next stage of the process.

They are aided by two Industry Practitioners who will be Project Managing the  entire process. Director Michael Hines  of Chewing the Fat and Still Game fame will be leading up the Skillset team, and Writer and Actor Martin McCardie will be responsible for the Spirit Aid Project.

All aspects of the videos will be researched. workshopped, recorded, edited and distributed by UWS students. Teams are using the skills of 4th  Year Contemporary Screen Acting students, Commercial Music Students, and Film Making & Screenwriting Students to ensure that the finished products are of the highest standard.

I hope to blog on the progress of the projects as they develop, and look forward to showcasing the end products towards the end of May

From Concept To Delivery : Student Producers to create  a Digital Micro Drama  in six  hours.

Third year Contemporary Screen Acting students at University Of The West Of Scotland will be conceiving, creating, recording editing and delivering  an edited digital micro drama  using their own expertise and the resources of the new UWS Television Studios.

The students will initiate the process with a blank sheet of paper at 1.30 pm, and aim to deliver the finished drama by 7.00 pm that night in the Student’s Union.

- Mary Jean Lewis and Des Horsfall, what a cracker!!

rock n roll royalty mary jean lewis belts out great balls of fire ... |
Saturday 3rd of March at Woodend Bowling and Tennis Club Mary Jean Lewis (neice of Jerry Lee Lewis) with her Low Men and Des Horsfall and Andy McKerlie

Doors 8.00

Tickets £10

A great night of music coming up with Mary Jean Lewis and Her Low Men. Mary Jean is part of a musical legacy that started back in the fifties with her uncle, Jerry Lee. She’s an absolute star exuding all the charm you would expect from a Louisiana woman. She draws on a range of country, blues, and rock n roll to create her own soulful style based on her powerful voice and intimate connection with the lyrics.

Mary Jean Lewis with her band, the Low Men are making quite a name for themselves on the Roots music scene playing a mixture of country, pop, rockabilly and rock n roll. This night in March promises to be an intimate occasion as she takes us on a journey through American roots music accompanied by Martin Barrett (guitar), JT Davidson (pedal steel) and Sy McBain (doghouse bass).

Also playing this night is Des Horsfall and Andy McKerlie, as recommended by John Miller. Working with various Roots band line-ups since the late seventies - Des Horsfall has had, in his own words – “a few skirmishes with fame”. In the eighties he fronted Blues-Rock band ‘Raw Deal’ that was managed by Alexis Korner. In the nineteen nineties he was to be seen in hit videos on CMT and as opening act for Joe Ely, Steve Earle and many others. After a decade of studio work at his own analogue recording facility Valve Studios, Horsfall has re-emerged with a brand new ‘Rustic Rock n Roll’ outfit ‘Des Horsfall’s Kuschty Rye’  and a critically acclaimed (Ronnie Lane inspired) album ‘The Good Gentleman’s Tonic’ – the first in a trilogy mirroring Lane’s Slim Chance releases.

Tickets available from Alan Hendry on 07944354459 or this e-mail.
